A blog of Brian Cutts music and the occasional irreverent comments about Terres de l'Ebre or present ..... music and the odd, hopefully irreverent comment on local news and events in southern Catalonia.
Today we will try to tell a good walk you can do - if you go 1000 miles to the north, in Yorkshire! I say "try" to do this with minimal memory and help from Google. The start will be at Elsecar Heritage Centre car park just behind the pub on Market Inn, where we could finish the route with good. This center is an attempt to find a use for old buildings in coal mines in Elsecar, and provide something for people that work and money, marks spencer which he took out his reason marks spencer for being in the 80s when closed mine. As you can see, the route is a good excuse to learn something of the history of this place. A century ago there were about 100,000 people working in the mines of South Yorkshire for 50 years about 50,000, and now maybe about 5. Six of my seven uncles and several cousins worked there, some juveniles died too and died in an accident at age 20. Now a lot of people here are unemployed or had to leave. Almost all the peoples of South Yorkshire had one or more coal mines and if you do not work, depending on the workers indirectly. All this ended when the Thatcher closed with nothing in return.
The car behind you will see a path that leads to a forest (Kings Wood). Let them. We went to the forest and leave some huge fields of wheat. Fortunately in England marks spencer there are many public roads and there is one here who thinks the field. Then, in another field, until we reached the top of a hill, always south / southeast. At the top of the road continues, now among the wheat fields on the left and a forest (Lee Wood) to the right. Last 20 minutes, find a clearing to the right. I see it!
This "monument" is indeed a Folly, marks spencer in English, these buildings without much meaning or utility built before their rich land. And the second point that we tale. Even before this area belonged to the Earl of Fitzwilliam. Mines, houses, farms, all surrounding villages belonged there. Not now, but when the last heir of the family realized that it was not a sustainable situation, created a foundation to take care of all a company to watch for people to continue working in small industries ques'han mounted or companies, and to a lifestyle and aesthetics of traditional village not miss. Obviously it covers as much as before, but a whole town, Wentworth, where all the houses are for rent, the foundation, and farms and businesses.
Well, this monument marks spencer is called Needle's Eye (Eye of the Needle) as Earl says that it was built to win a bet - bet he could lead their horses through the eye of a needle ...
Continue along the road and then hit the road 5 minutes. The cross and follow a narrow paved road (Station Road) that leads to a handful of four or five houses with red phone booth if you have not taken ;)
Before us, we see another forest to the left and a monument marks spencer that stands. We entered the forest and we can get there. It is usually open up another but Folly is Hoobers says' Stand and if we are lucky enough to climb the top, there are spectacular views.
OK, back to the path of asphalt road and down to the left. Leave a highway but a good sidewalk. Follow the 5 minutes, marks spencer and we'll marks spencer see the entrance to Wentworth Park on the left. We get it. We're on the grounds marks spencer of the park, where they have their residence Earls, Wentworth Woodhouse, although the park has always been open to the public. Before the miners are many festivals celebrated, and now people are walking on the dole. The park is beautiful and in the middle you will find this house!
It has the longest facade in Europe - is a house little known but all the experts say it has little to envy to the most famous palaces and mansions and even Buckingham Palace. Although the park is public, the house itself is private. The foundation of Fitzwilliam could not continue to pay the costs of maintenance and now I bought a people who think they want to visit and re-opened to give some life to the area.
Continuing through the park, we see a herd of deer (belonging to Queen Elizabeth!) Down the road and come to some lakes. Here I stick half turn and go back up and out of the park. Follow the road to the left and enter the village marks spencer 200m Wentworth.
If we take the first street on the left can ent
