The successful candidate is an individual who has completed, or nearly completed, PhD in a relevant field or with professional experience in the field; who can work as part of a team and independently; and with a background and research agenda relevant to the area and would strengthen the research portfolio of the Department and the University.
The post is funded by the National Welsh College Academic Plan which provides funding for Welsh HEIs to employ academic staff and foster world-class lecturers known for innovation and more
H in teaching and research. Byddy Welsh College provides 1m annually for a period of five years in the first instance to support Welsh medium academic posts. Anticipated st charles mall that this plan will lead to the funding of over 100 Welsh medium academic posts by academic year
The Department of Computer Science has been successful in securing funding for one of these jobs. The post is part of a wider community of academic staff in Wales in Aberystwyth and by working towards achieving the goal of ensuring Welsh College full status to Welsh as a medium for education and research within the university sector. The holder will have a key function in carrying st charles mall out national plans for the College in this area and help to achieve the targets set in this subject for Welsh medium provision and numbers students choosing to study in Welsh.
Approximately 10% of the Department of Computer Science undergraduates over recent years in Welsh speakers. Employers often offer job opportunities in the industry for a year with the ability to use Welsh is essential or desirable, and a range of jobs in IT and similar fields in the private and public sectors requires the ability to use the language.
